 Steve Anderson - Partner

CHIP Travel founder Steve Anderson hails from Fayetteville, Arkansas – where he once served as a VISTA volunteer, taught school, practiced law and involved himself in community affairs as a JP on the local Quorum Court and then in national affairs as an aid to Arkansas Congressman Bill Alexamder (1st District).

While busy making other plans, force majuere (she's gone but not forgotten) took him to Chile in 1987. He launched the Chile Information Project (CHIP) in 1990 as a hobby and a spin-off from a project that began while working at the Catholic Church's Vicaria of Solidarity, a human rights organization. CHIP soon grew and expanded into The Santiago Times (Chile’s only English language newspaper, which is now joined by the CHIP-sponsored Valparaiso Times and Patagonia Times) and CHIP Travel, Chile’s first gringo-owned travel agency.

Anderson spends as many hours as possible with his media naranja - Maria Loreto - and their  son Ray, age 10.  On most weekends the family enjoys their “Five-Acres-And-Independence” parcela in Caleu, an hour from Santiago. Summers are spent on their farm just outside of  Puerto Montt - growing blueberries and enjoying their farm’s ocean side view.  

Joel L. Martínez - Partner. Director of Marketing and Project Development

Arican by birth. Father of two kids. Since graduating from Law School at the Catholic University in Santiago, where he also studied Esthetics, he realized that his don was creating: hence, his law firm Failla & Martínez. Amongst many of his projects, Joel has published two apocryphal poetic works, and currently oversees all the development of Picnic Sur Ltda.

Peter Murphy Lewis - Partner. Director of Business and Project Development

After traveling through 23 countries in Latin America, this country boy gringo finally settled in Santiago, where he has a day job as a Professor of International Relations at the University of Chile. Peter says he leads a simple life, but he is permanently connected to his Blackberry, hyperactively listens to daily political podcasts, and he still skypes home to Kansas everyday. A self-proclaimed optimist, Peter is not always that self-aware, but we still love him anyway.

Madison Park Mitchell - Walking Tour Manager. Guide

Origin: Tennessee, USA. Mac saw Pink Floyd live in concert in Europe, making him the most envied partner within La Bicicleta Verde. Mac also created and developed Santiago´s best city walking tour.

 Alejandra Diaz - Office Manager

Alejandra was born in Santiago and studied advertising at the University of Santiago. She has worked for CHIP since 1994 and has two teenaged daughters – Vera and Maga.

Alejandra has made a valiant effort over the years to learn English, but has finally decided that she is linguistically challenged. Still, she more than makes up for her English-language learning handicap with an abundance of good cheer and lots of hard work - handling CHIP finances and keeping the offices in good running order. She handles all matters relating to subscriptions and tries to keep Steve focused on business priorities.
